1970 Austin A60 Half-Ton van on column. Blue with sign writing. Half-ton commercial models were introduced in 1957. The van was released in February and was followed in May by pick-up, chassis and cab and chassis models. Contemporary sales literature used the term "Austin ½ ton van and pick-up". .This A60 is a very presentable usable van, with a very good tidy load area. The whole concept of purchasing a light commercial for private classic motoring combined with its advertising potential is one we have enjoyed for many years and proved to be an enormous success. Without doubt the most economical and successful form of advertising known to man! Without doubt the most popular 1/2 ton van of its era with many thousands bought to work hard and consequently worked to death. With this in mind, examples like this are now difficult to acquire.
Sign written in the livery of a well known Southampton dealer of the period, the B series engine starts easily and runs well, coloum change works effectively with the inside and out of this van being very solid. Not concourse but a good solid usable van with a good size load area .This van has an MOT until February 2022 and on test drive runs and drives just as she should, very original.
