1962 Triumph TR4 Roadster with Overdrive. A wonderful mix of British brawn and Italian style, the Michelotti-styled TR4 was launched in 1961 and did away with the cut-away door design of the previous TRs to allow for wind-down windows while the crisp rear end styling allowed a boot with considerable capacity for a sports car. It was powered by a torquey 110bhp 2,138cc four-cylinder twin-carb engine mated to an all-synchro four-speed box that could launch the car to 60mph in 10.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 105mph. Optional Laycock de Normanville electrically operated overdrive could now be selected for 2nd and 3rd gear as well as 4th, effectively providing the TR4 with a seven-speed close ratio gearbox. A wider track and precise rack-and-pinion steering meant that it handled better than its forebears.Presented in possibly the best colour combination of British Racing Green with black leather upholstery and a black hood. The TR4 looks splendid sitting on its wire wheels and the interior is complemented by the walnut dashboard, rare original steering wheel and occasional rear seat. Registered in the UK on 4th April 2000 following its return from the USA. A British Motor Industry Heritage trust Certificate confirms the chassis number. The history folder contains an impressive amount of receipts covering the restoration. The TR starts on the button and drives very well with a strong engine and smooth gearbox with working overdrive. Absolutely any inspection is welcome. All major debit and credit cards accepted. Delivery can be arranged. |
